Saruhan Caravanserai is a living gathering ground — a powerful historic atmosphere for invitations, galas, private celebrations and corporate events.
In the middle of Anatolia, in a lonely valley, a structure has stood upright for centuries… Rising at the crossroads of civilisations, Saruhan Caravanserai is one of the most striking examples of Seljuk architecture.
Holding the status of "Immovable Cultural and Living Heritage", this monumental building was commissioned in 1249 during the reign of Izzeddin Keykavus II and carries roughly 800 years of history. Spanning approximately 2,000 m², the caravanserai follows the classical Seljuk sultan-han plan, comprising both summer (open courtyard) and winter (covered hall) sections.
The mosque at the entrance, the spacious courtyard, the barrel-vaulted rooms ranged around it, and the arcades resting on five piers reveal the building's architectural richness. The closed winter section offered travellers safe shelter in the harshest weather. The structure also commands a dominant position over its surroundings with its panoramic terrace.
Located on the historic Silk Road, Saruhan Caravanserai sits 5 minutes from Avanos, 10 minutes from Ürgüp and 15 minutes from Göreme, on a strategic position close to the main Kayseri road. Once a vital lodging point for merchants, the building today retains its value for cultural events and tourism.
Commissioned during the reign of Sultan Izzeddin Keykavus II on the Avanos–Kayseri route. Spanning ~2,000 m², the structure follows the classical Seljuk sultan-han plan with both summer (open courtyard) and winter (closed hall) sections.
Rising at the heart of Anatolia along the Silk Road, this structure stood for centuries as a safe haven where caravans, sages and wanderers paused to breathe. Bridging the mystery of the East with the vigour of the West, this ancient route bore witness to the flow of history through the scent of silk and spice.
After trade routes shifted and the building fell into a long silence, a comprehensive 20th-century restoration returned its masonry and architecture to their original Seljuk character.
Saruhan today hosts a wide range of distinguished events — from Sema ceremonies and weddings to galas, brand launches and private celebrations. With its enchanting eight-century atmosphere and unmatched acoustics, this historic venue offers the modern guest an ancient bridge between past and future.
Saruhan Caravanserai's atmosphere today is the result of the care given to its stone, its arches and its memory.

An eight-century monumental caravanserai commissioned by Sultan Izzeddin Keykavus II in 1249. Classical Sultan Han plan: summer and winter sections. A masjid above the entrance iwan, a wide courtyard, barrel-vaulted rooms, arcades on five rows of pillars, and a panoramic terrace.
The ideal stage for summer months and fair weather. Composed of two parts — the Arcade Area (Bazaar Hall) and the Open Courtyard. Either a single section or the entire courtyard can be used, depending on the event.
The most suitable area for winter and weather-independent events. Once the stables, today serving as the restaurant, the stone construction provides natural climate control; light and acoustic ambience here are unparalleled.
Eight distinct rooms reserved for tailored use depending on the event. Thanks to the stone construction, each carries a unique acoustic character and natural climate buffer; every one served a specific historic role.
